It is definately possible they have finally decided to appear 13 months later. Although most warts will show up within 3 months of the contact, it is a repressed virus within your skin, and a dip in your immunity might cause the virus to display itself later. People can carry the virus for years or decades before anything happens. There are over 100 strands of the HPV virus, although the four most common are 6,11,16, and 18. Ones that present warts are 6 and 11 (they are not life threatening). 16 and 18 can (but not necessarily) lead to cervical cancer. Warts can be treating by freezing off the actual warts (often with TCA) in a series of doctor visits (it will burn a little, but nothing bad). You want to avoid contact with your partner until about 3 weeks after the warts have disappeared. Many men can carry the virus without knowing it, and there is no way for them to get tested to see if they are carriers of the virus--although only about 1% (male and female) of the total population will present warts at any time. Once the warts have gone, if they don't reappear within 6 months you are probably fine, and a year is better. Since you now know your partner has warts, this would be the perfect opportunity for you to get a pap exam (to test for abnormal results caused by hpv virus 16,18, or others (which you would not see), or if there are any warts within your vagina, on the cervis, or elsewhere that you cannot see. Another good preemptive step would be to get the Gardisil vaccination, which is a series of 3 shots taken over a few months to prevent a few of the most common forms of the hpv virus. They run about $500-$750 at a doctor, but you can get them at a very cost-efficient price if you check into your local health department. This might be a good time to talk about your relationship, be thankful he didn't contract anything worse, and take a few steps to alleviate his and protect your health. Best of luck! =)

Two thirds of people who become infected with genital warts will have them appear within three months however it could take years. Depends on your immune system.

Genital warts is a virus and yes it can show itself much later on. Some contract it and the immune system fights it until it gives up and you have an outbreak.
Go to this web site for some great information about this virus and how to get more resources. http://helpforgenitalwarts.com/genital-herpes-treatment/"

Yes it is possible. Genital warts are caused by a virus. If the male has them on his penis, you can get them. I know, I had 15 removed 20 yrs ago. I was so scared but my doctor told me it was nothing I did, it was a virus that was carried by the male. I tell you one thing, that guy is lying, because even though you get these warts primarily from the male, if the other girl he had sex with had them from another partner, then she gave them to him. I hope she dumps him because he's unfaithful.
