Genital Warts And Hpv…?

Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 21, 2009

Long question. My boyfriend, I am gay, was once married to a woman who had genital warts for 7 years. However, during the time they were married she never had an outbreak. Obviously, they weren’t having protected sex, and now that we have been together for over a year we aren’t now either. First, since she has genital warts does she have HPV? Secondly, would he have it too, genital warts or HPV, even though it has been 10 years since they first had sex and has never had a genital problem? He has been tested for the “regular” STDs and is clean, but men can’t easily be tested for HPV and he has never had a visible wart. Thanks.

HPV stands for human papillomavirus and there are more than 100 different types. Some types that are sexually transmitted can cause genital warts, but many types that infect the genitals tend not cause any noticeable symptoms. Then there are the types that can lead to cancer. So in response to your question yes if she was diagnosed with HPV she has genital warts because genital warts are a form HPV. I think you are thinking HPV means the cancerous type only but that is not the case, it can be just plain regular sexually transmitted genital warts with or without actual break outs. The types that can cause cancer are referred to as the “high risk” types. People can be immune to diseases so it is possible that he may not have it but may be a carrier of it or it’s possible that he just hasn’t shown any symptoms. I would suggest that maybe he talk with his doctor and get tested, I know you said it is not easy for men to be tested but it sounds like you both need piece of mind. He should also find out if his X had the high risk type or the other type.

He is likely a carrier of HPV but is unlikely to becom infected with genital warts because she did not have an outbreak within that time, Its still a good idea to be tested for all std’s now while its in ur mind.

OK so there are 18 different kinds of hpv and i think genital warts are number 11 so yes genital warts are a type of hpv but if she never had a out break chances are your boyfriend would not have contracted it BUT you have to remember that hpvs can hibernate (so to speak ) for many many years i would be sure to use a condom until you can be sure he is hpv free here is a site on hpv test for males o and the gardisil shot will be available to men with in the next couple of years my two year old son all ready got his and i got my first shot today http://helpforgenitalwarts.com/genital-herpes-treatment/ "

Please know that Genital Warts is caused by HPV, Strands 6 and 11 are low risk. This is a skin virus and this is different with many people. For men only 1% get genital warts and most men don’t. They are just carriers…plus most of the time genital warts are removed but you still hold the virus which your immune system surpresses then lays dormant until your re-infected again.
HPV is very managable and like any virus like the flu…it can be managed. Sure it’s irritating but, not life threatning.
Keep up with your doctor and any questions you might have…don’t be afraid to ask.

Yes that means his wife has HPV…does he have it too? Very likely!!! For some it can take YEARS and YEARS to pop out..for others it never does…it doesnt take a wart outbreak to spread HPV…many women never know they have it and spread it around by not using protection…an abnormal pap smear with squamos cells is HPV…there are many many strands of the virus and only a handful actually cause warts…and most people have more than 1 form of the virus.

Genital warts is an STD. If he’s STD free you have nothing to worry about.

Go and speak to your doctor. As far as I’m aware, there may be a good chance your partner didnt contract the warts (if they were hpv related)
Check out the site below. It will give you information on how and when it can be contracted.
    Hope this helps..

  9. You should ask your doctor, I would guess there probably isn’t a problem but I’ve heard STDs can stay dormant for years and years and then pop up one day, that was my mom saying that though before I got married trying to keep me from having sex…lol Its probably not true!
