Help for Genital Warts

I am wondering if anyone has had genital warts in the past and never passed it on to anyone else. I haven’t had any occorunces in about 8 months and I want to have safe sex without having to worry about transmitting anything. I have read a lot about how the virus usually is eliminated by the bodies immune system from 6 to 12 months. I just want some personal feedback. If you don’t have any personal experience with this, please do not post. thank you.

My boyfriend had a few small bumps on the area near his pubic bone, not on his penis. He had them there for a few years so i suggested that he have them checked out. He went to the doctor and they said that he has genital warts. He been treating them with a liquid acid. My question is, When are they most contagious? I have not gotten any genital warts and we’ve been together for 8 yrs now. I get a pap every year and none have been abnormal. Do I have hpv now?

If it’s the type of HPV that causes warts and there are no visible warts, is it contagious? If it’s the kind that’s in the cervix, what is it’s contagiousness? Is there the possibility of invisible viral shedding similar to herpes? Will using condoms protect me in either case?

I had sex with a girl who told me afterwards that she had them, but she said that they weren’t contagious unless she was experiencing an outbreak. Is it still possible to contract them if there’s no outbreak?
